A Basic Understanding Of Salvation

Jesus stated very emphatically, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God…Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” In the same context He also stated, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

He spoke of not perishing, then He said that we could be saved through Him. The words “perish” and “saved” or “salvation” carry with them the inference of danger or impending doom. What is that danger from which we need to be saved? The Bibles states, “…it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment…” To all who are not saved the Lord will say, “Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” Are you prepared to meet God and face His judgment? Are you sure you will go to heaven when you die?

It is of vital importance to know Jesus Christ and to have a personal relationship with him. Salvation is only in Jesus Christ. His salvation is real and present and free. His salvation is eternal. His salvation is absolutely necessary.

Here is how to have that salvation:

There are some things that you must know and accept as true before you can be saved. First, you must know that you are a sinner in the eyes of God. That is, you have broken God’s laws, at least some of them, and are in trouble with Him.

You must face the facts and realize that there is a sever penalty for your sin. Romans 3:10-12, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Romans 5:12, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death….”

Do you believe that you are a sinner in the sight of God? It is easy to say that all have sinned, but it becomes personal when I say that I have sinned against God.

You must then take responsibility for your sin and confess that you are guilty and deserve the punishment that God prescribes. You cannot blame someone else for your disobedience.

Do you take responsibility for your sin and realize that you deserve to go to Hell? Again, it is not too hard to say that all sinners deserve to go to Hell, but it is personal to say that I deserve to go to Hell.

You must believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay for your sins and that He arose again from the dead.” Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 4:23-25, “Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.”

Do you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross and paid for your sins and that He arose the third day from the dead? It is not too hard to say that Jesus died for the sins of the whole world, but it is personal to say that He died for my sins.

If you believe that you are a sinner. If you know that you deserve God’s punishment for your sin and that surely you will receive it unless you act upon God’s promise. If you believe that Jesus died and paid for your sin and that He arose from the dead. In order to be saved you must act upon this belief and simply call upon the Lord to save you. Are you willing do what God prescribes for you to do to be saved”?

Romans 10:9, 10 and 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

God is saying that this is a heart matter now between you and Him. He is saying that all you have to do now is ask Him, and He will save you from you sins and will give you the gift of eternal life. Are you willing to call upon Him and ask Him to save you”?

You can pray and ask Him now to save you. You might simply pray, “Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve your punishment for my sin. But I believe that you died and paid for my sins. I believe that you rose again from the dead, and that you are here now to save me. Please forgive me of my sins and please save me now.”

God’s promise is, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” If you sincerely called upon Him the gifts of salvation and eternal life are now yours.
